Ruth & Naomi

Weekly Verse:

Show love to one another. Romans 12:10

Point:

Family members can love and help one another.

Ruth 1-4

Family Review Questions:

Where did Ruth and Naomi move? Bethlehem/ Israel
How did Ruth help Naomi? She took care of her and fed her.
How did Boaz help Ruth? He married her so he could take care of her and Naomi.

Family Activity:

Go on a family picnic and bring some papers and crayons! While on the picnic, talk about how Ruth gleaned (or picked up) grain for her and Naomi to eat. After eating and talking about the story, have children draw a picture of their family. Remind them that God wants us to help and care for our family!

The Emmaus Disciples

Weekly Verse:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live.

Point:

Jesus taught that all the Scriptures point to Him.

Read:

Luke 24

Family Review Questions:

  • What were the two disciples talking about as they walked and why were they upset? (They were talking about the events that lead up to Jesus’ death. They were upset he was crucified.)
  • How is all the Bible about Jesus? (Jesus was a part of God’s plan along. The Old Testament point to Jesus’ coming life. The New Testament tells us about Jesus’ life and how we should live thereafter.)
  • Where is Jesus now? (Jesus ascended to heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God the Father.)

Family Activity:

Take a family walk listening to “Jesus our Savior” https://open.spotify.com/track/6nuLRyXuNB4mG98OfvUeKY…

Remind children that these disciples walked 7 miles with Jesus learning about how all of the Scriptures foretold about Jesus, and they never recognized Him until He broke the bread! We can be assured that all of the Bible points to Jesus and His sacrifice for our sins and His resurrection from the dead.

Baby Moses

Weekly Verse:

Show love to one another. Romans 12:10

Point:

Family members can care for and protect one another.

Read:

Exodus 1:8-2:10

Family Review Questions:

Where did the mother place the baby? (In a basket in the river)
Why did she do that? (To save the baby because Pharaoh did not want the boy babies to live.)
Who found the basket and the baby? (Pharaoh’s daughter, the princess)
What did the Pharaoh’s daughter name the baby? (Moses)

Family Activity:

Create-> Give each person a large piece of tin foil. Fold the foil to make boats (be careful of sharp edges). When completed, test the boats in the bath tub with water! Place coins in the boats to see if they continue to float. Moses was placed in a basket that his mother coated in tar and and pitch to make sure if would float and Moses would be safe. Moses’ mom cared for and protected him like God wanted her to.
Physical-> Grab a laundry basket. Have your child sit inside. Carefully push or pull the laundry basket around. Just like Moses’ mom put him in a basket to protect him, families can keep each other safe and care for them!
Sing-> to the tune of “for he’s a jolly good fellow”
Take good care of your family,
Take good care of your family,
Take good care of your family,
God wants you to care for them!

Jesus’ Crucifixion & Resurrection

Jesus’ Crucifixion & Resurrection

Weekly Verse:

He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross. Philippians 2:8

Point:

Jesus died on the cross to pay for all our sins. God raised Jesus from the grave to defeat sin and death.

Read:

Matthew 26-28

Family Review Questions:

What did Jesus do to save us all? (He lived a sinless life , died on the cross, and rose from the dead.)
Where is Jesus now? (Jesus ascended to heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God the Father.)

Family Activity:

Materials: seeds, plastic cup or small pots, potting soil, water
Scoop potting soil into the cup or pot until it’s about 2/3 full. Make a hole for the seed with your finger tip, insert the seed, and cover the seed with soil. Water the soil just enough to be damp. With sunlight, water, and some TLC, these seeds will come to life and sprout through the soil! It is a great reminder of what Jesus did for us and how we should respond. Jesus died for our sins and was buried in a tomb, like we buried the seed in the soil. But on the third day, Jesus came back to life and out of the tomb! When we understand what Jesus did for us, we “die” to our old way of living and live a new life in Jesus, growing through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Abram and Lot worked together

Weekly Verse:

Do all you can to get along with everyone. Romans 12:18

Point:

God wants us to love and help one another (including our family) just as He loves and helps us.

Read:

Genesis 13

Family Review Questions:

❓What were Abram and Lot? (Family)
❓Why did Abram and Lot have to separate? (There wasn’t enough room for both families)
❓What did Abram tell Lot to do? (Have first choice of the land he wanted)
❓Where did Lot and Abram go? (Separate ways to different lands)

Family Activity:

One reason that Abram and lot had difficulty living together was because they had large families and so many animals!
Spread cottons balls on the floor or the middle of a table as “sheep”. Mark using tape or establish two general areas for two different “lands”. Using your breath to blow sheep OR popsicle sticks as shepherd’s staffs, move the sheep to two different lands. BUT instead of a competition for the most sheep, work together to make sure each “land” has the same amount of sheep. Parents this is also a great counting activity!
Abram knew that God’s plan is for family members to get along by helping and loving each other.
